Joseph J. Swope
Joseph J. Swope is an award-winning author, public relations professional, adjunct university instructor, and photographer. Joe is a lifelong resident of Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Swope’s career spans nearly 40 years in both corporate and non-profit settings. He worked as the director of public relations for 10 years at Alvernia College (now Alvernia University) and has worked at UGI Utilities, a natural gas and electric utility, for more than 28 years. He is currently the manager of media relations and special projects. Joe also taught as an adjunct instructor in communications and English at Alvernia for more than 30 years.
Joe has written five books.:
Pleasant Valley Lost, published in 2015, documents the loss of his family’s historic dairy farm to a federal dam project.
The Gift, also published in 2015, is a children’s book focused on diabetes awareness. Swope’s daughter, Chandra, illustrated the book.
Disturbed, published in 2018, is a ghost story set in the haunted Coal Region of Northeast Pennsylvania.
Where Magic and Science Collide, published in 2020, is a fantasy and science fiction novel set in a faraway world.
Dark Age Monarch: The Reign of King Arthur, scheduled to be published on June 23, 2022, is an imaginiative retelling of the Arthurian legends that blends both the traditional tale spun in the Middle Ages with the historical reality of the post-Roman 5th and 6th Century.
Joe lives in Reading, Pennsylvania, and has seven children. His oldest daughter is expecting Joe’s first grandchild in September.
